Country: Netherlands • Medium: Acrylics on Canvas
After having studied the art of painting under Dutch artist Marion van Nieuwpoort, whose trademark was expressive explosions of colour and movement, Eveline Hasselman had the privilege to take part in international master classes by Poen de Wijs, an exceptional artist renowned for his striking realism.
Eveline has been living and painting on Diani Beach for over 30 years, endlessly inspired by Kenya's grand nature, splendid colours and beautiful light. She loves capturing its faces, flowers and wildlife on canvas and paper.
She has used many mediums over time, but has settled on a preference of acrylics and soft pastel crayons for paintings and drawings respectively.
Her works of art often combine contrasting techniques of the mentors she was lucky to have for so many years.
Eveline, who was born in The Hague, has exhibited her drawings and paintings successfully in the Netherlands and Kenya. She had a solo exhibition in 2013 at the United Nations in Nairobi.
Currently, the artist spends time on both North and South Coast of Mombasa as well as on Zanzibar Island.
